Eddie Murphy purchases Beverly Hills Cop to the small screen

The heat is on ... and could be on the small screen, too. It was reported that Eddie Murphy is shopping around a project to Axel Foley on the small screen.

Sony Pictures Television, Shawn Ryan, executive producer of "The Last Resort" and Eddie Murphy are buying a small-screen version of the Paramount "Beverly Hills Cop" he told The Hollywood Reporter.

THR said they had confirmed, in fact, history, first reported by Vulture. The project will be shown on broadcast networks this coming Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.

Murphy starred in three "Beverly Hills Cop" movies. While he's joined the project as an actor, the report said that Murphy would only appear in the pilot and a couple of episodes throughout the first season, according to Vulture.

The series would be "starring Axel Foley son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit." In the "Beverly Hills Cop" movies, Foley was a clever detective from Detroit who was working outside their jurisdiction in Beverly Hills. Looser of local police "associated with", Foley not only brought the bad guys, put the local police, played by Judge Reinhold and John Ashton, to become something less puritanical.

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine in November, Murphy said:

"What I'm trying to do with Beverly Hills Cop now is produce a TV show starring Axel Foley's son, and Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit.'d Do the pilot, appear here and there. Neither scripts film were right, but I was trying to force this premise If you have to force something, you should not be doing it always was a repetition of old was always wrong "....

It is unclear if the step you took this week is identical to the idea that Murphy related to Rolling Stone in 2011.

Murphy is the third big name considering a return to the big screen recently. First Michael J. Fox saw his project green lit by NBC, sans driver, then the rumors of Robin Williams comedy series re-emerged, this week only.
